    Default Nobel Peace Prize

Now, we all know what a Nobel Peace Prize is. Obama won it recently, he also wins a 70 million lottery (http://www.freep.com/article/2009101...91011003/1318/) . Now the purpose of this thread is to. (Writing prompt, got stuck in my head because of school)

    - state your opinions, and feelings
    - ask questions
    - give answers, etc.
    - talk about other people winning Nobel Prizes (not just peace)

I personally am happy for him, but I'm worried about this thread being a controversial topic.

I still wonder what Obama has done to get the Nobel Prize.
They say he did a lot (of course, in about half a year . . .) for worldwide communication and understanding between different nations.
I think there are 100 people who should get the price instead of him, there are people fighting for children in poor countries or organisations fighting against the war.
Obama is the president and does, what a president usually does - he talks. I think one of the main reasons he got this price is, that Bush didn't do to many good things. Obama tries to change these mistakes know (which is obviously really good!), but that's more or less the normal case.

Finally I think the Jury just followed the general "Obama-hype". I really appreciate the things he does, but he's a politican, not a pop-star(as he's often seen), so I think its wrong that people all over the world cheer to him as soon as he says "Hi!" . . . . .
    I need to improve my F2L !!! ;)

+1 Obama hasn't done much, and most of what he has done, I don't agree with. I don't get it.

+1 again. People see his face like they see it on that infamous hope poster and they support him for change without really knowing what this change is.

In that case, lets stop honoring those who have served in the military. Also, policeman and firemen obviously don't deserve recognition for their heroics, it's their job!

Also i never said anything about stop honoring those men and women.
you obviously are for Obama and are taking this way to personally.
Judging by your response im guessing you dont know why people dont want him to get this award because you hear what you want to hear instead of both sides.

The rationale behind giving Obama the Peace Prize is to "encourage" him to really follow through on what he has said he will do. I think the bigger issue here is people valuing the Nobel Prize so highly. The Nobel Peace Prize committee is made up of 5 people!
To quote the Associated Press: "The five-member Norwegian Nobel Committee — four of whom spoke to The Associated Press, said awarding Obama the peace prize could be seen as an early vote of confidence intended to build global support for the policies of his young administration."
Regardless of what you think about Obama, the Nobel Committee does whatever it likes and there have been much bigger Nobel controversies in the past.
