Talking New Zealand cuber reporting in.

Hello everyone. I'm Daniel, an 18 year old male cuber from NZ. I've been cubing since Jan 08 when I got a cube while on holiday to play with when I was bored late at night and ended up raging at it and vowing to learn how to do it when I got home. During my last year of secondary school, I used to take my cube and ended up teaching a few people how to cube including my current girlfriend (6 months before dating her) .

I didn't touch anything other than beginners Fredrich cross, first layer, second layer, oll (repeat sune algorithm), PLL (R' F R' B2 R F' R' B2 R2 + bad edge cycle) for about 10 months. Looking at speed cube videos and following random links on Youtube, my jaw dropped at the speed increase of F2L and I've recently learned the 2 look OLL and am currently going through the PLLs. After averaging a minute until I siliconed my cubes and learned my new tricks, I'm now averaging 30 seconds and only planning on getting faster.

I can also do the 4x4 and 5x5 cubes but I've only played around with them and havn't started to get faster yet. I can do a 4x4 in about 3 minutes but it's a terrible store cube with bad popping and locking habits. my 5x5 is 5-7 mins and is well behaving and unlubricated but an incredibly smooth cube.

The main 3x3 I currently use is a store cube nick named by my friends "Jesus Cube" (JC for short) due to it being better than a friends DIY for corner skipping and it's turning is incredible. My other 3x3 was given to me by a friends flatmate because they wanted it to stop haunting them in their room and after a spray over with silicone it's decent but only used when I feel like solving a cube with a different feel or doing 2 cubes quickfire.

My cube graveyard contains one cube with some peeled off stickers that had been peeled off by an ***** saying he knew an awesome way to solve it (I was not impressed when I turned around a few mins later and saw half of the stickers on the table), one cube with a broken white center (snapped withen 30 solves) and I somehow managed to lose a cube somewhere in my house..

Long introduction but I'm sure this has given at least one person a small break for their fingers :P. Before I am asked, yes I will be going to the cube competition in July but I will not be entering. I hope to enjoy my time here as my cubing grows but time shrinks.

Why would you not enter? If you're averaging 30 seconds (or even sub-minute), you certainly should enter! You won't win, but you certainly have quite respectable times, respectable enough that you should most certainly enter. You're plenty good enough to be competing.

Also, in New Zealand, there might be a chance of them falling short of enough competitors to make a legal competition. They only have 10 signed up so far, and they need 12. You need to compete to make sure they are legal!

If your coming then you should definitely compete! Your faster than several of the registered competitors, so your not going to be the slowest.
