Thread: U turn glued down puzzle

Default U turn glued down puzzle

At this site: http://cubezzz.homelinux.org/drupal/...ew/123#comment it talks about having a cube in which it is physically impossible to turn the U layer, and the goal is to create a "pseudo" U turn, if you will. My question is, how could that puzzle be made? I know you could make a special core/ custom build the cube from scratch, but I want to modify a store-bought 3x3 into this puzzle. My original idea was to superglue the U layer center to the core, however it broke, bot messy, etc.

Any other ideas on how to create this puzzle?

I think you had the right idea, but went about it in the wrong way. Superglue would not be strong enough, you would either have to epoxy the centerpiece to the core, or manufacture it with the U center permanently affixed(like the corner on an ES 2x2). Superglue dries fast and is good for quick fixes, but if you want a permanent fix then you need something like 2-ton epoxy.

That's not possible. If you do an X or Y turn the U layer will change and it won't be able to change which layer you can't turn.

i think that he is referring to one side of the cube that doesn't turn, a side that you would generally hold as the u face. I had a similar idea, but the U and D layers wouldn't turn and you have to solve using the sides.
