Hey guys, so I haven't been seriously cubing for a long while. Whenever I pick up a cube, I just solve it, and get bored. Does anyone know how to get back into cubing? I think part of my problem is that I am stuck at almost sub-15, and can't get any faster. Should I just take a LONG break, or what? I think this could be beneficial to many people having the same issue.

I am cuber with times around 30s. I use Guhong for practise.

I have heard some voices, that cuber should do some practise solves with cube like classic Rubiks (or other, that almost do not cut corners) to train precision in moves. Without that precision is hard to achieve good times.

So I have question for faster cubers (sub15 or even sub10). Do you practice/used to practice with non corner cutting cube for precision? If yes, do you think it helped you to achieve better solve times?

I was looking at roller' s post on the sponsored cube solve he is doing, and decided to do something the same. In England, Free Radio are hosting a 13 mile walk for 4 different children's charities in June. I am going to take part, and I thought as an idea, I am going to try repeatedly solve a Rubiks cube for the duration of the walk. I will have one ten minute break every hour, but I'll be cubing for the rest. Visit http://walk.freeradio.co.uk if you live in England near Birmingham, come and have a go as there are 4 walks, each in different areas. Or if you don't want to walk, come and cheer us on!

Hey everyone, I'm 22 and new to cubing, I've been using Badmephisto's beginner's method, and for the most part I'm getting everything down pretty well, the only step in the method I'm having trouble memorizing is step 6 ( R' F R' B2 R F' R' B2 R2 ). With all the other simple algorithms and steps used in this method, I've found an easy way to memorize the moves, but this one just won't stick! Any help is appreciate. Thanks in advanced.

Hey, I'm writing to inform you all that after weeks of planning with local Cambridge, UK based organisation Centre33, I have started a fundraising event called CubeTrust.
In few weeks (date and place to be announced) I will attempt to solve cubes (2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, Pyraminx and Square-1) continuously for 10 hours (with two 5mins breaks allowed for toilet etc).
I'm doing it to show that every problem can be solved and to raise awareness against self harm and teenage suicide, hoping that this way I will attract the attention and will raise money to help Centre33 to help troubled teenagers even better :)

My target is to raise £200,00 so I would be very thankful if you could spare a minute and donate a couple of pounds for the cause, it would honestly mean so much not just to me or Centre33 members but it would help the teenagers that need your help.

I thought I'd share it all with you here, as we are a speedcubing community, and thought that some of you would like to know that such project is taking place :)

The website on which you can read more information about the cause or donate and help me fight teenage self harm and depression is below;

http://www.justgiving.com/CubeTrust

Thank you for listening to me, I hope I didn't annoy anyone either, wish me luck fellow cubers!

PS. The profile picture of the event is me next to a timer showing a very low time at the UK Open 2009, and of course the time isn't real, the picture was taken for future motivation over 4 years ago and it's simply the most 'cubing' photograph I own! :)

As you can see I am a complete newb here, so pls correct me if I had made any mistakes.

I have been cubing for around 2 years, and have achieved times of 40 something, with a corners first method. I use ortega for the 2x2 phase. I am planning to learn either Waterman or PCMS (columns first).

I wish to improve my times to lower than 40, so any suggestions?

Thanks

Let's start with the important facts - I'm not very fast. I currently average between 23 and 26 seconds, having started cubing in December. I went straight into full CFOP.

So here's a little snapshot of my progress:

Spoiler:

13/12/2012 - average 74.3
19/12/2012 - average 57.7 (sub minute)
08/01/2013 - average 45.1 (sub 50)
15/01/2013 - average 39.4 (sub 40)
21/02/2013 - average 29.73 (sub 30)
07/05/2013 - average 26.67 (latest Ao50)

From start to sub 40 in a month. Sub 30 in another month. Now I'm sub 25 on a good day, a full 2 1/2 months later. Why did my progress slow down? Because I only ever do timed solves.

The fact of the matter is, there's far more time to shave off when coming down from 70+ seconds to 30, than there is from 30 to 20, or 20 to 18, etc.. As a result, without actual practice (by which I mean any focussed effort to improve a specific aspect of my solving technique) I managed to improve rapidly. Personally, I think c.30 seconds is where you can get without any really focussed effort whatsoever. I may be wrong, it's just my opinion.

Now, I've been 'stuck' around the 26 second mark for a couple of months. Not because I'm stupid, lazy, or can't get faster - more because I have a family and a full-time job, and the little time I get to cube, I just like to do timed solves. I'm happy being able to solve the cube under 30 seconds practically every time. It's not my limit, it's just a plateau!

In the 2 months I've been sat around this mark, I must have seen a dozen individual posts asking for help getting sub 30, sub 40, or sub XX. It bugs the hell out of me, and I can only imagine how faster cubers feel about it.

Here's my 2 cents worth:

1 - When you posted, did you not see the massive red warning to make sure you've searched the forum first?

2 - Why don't ANY of you include videos in your posts? How are people meant to critique your technique without videos? Which brings me on to...

3 - Why not just post a vid in the solve critique thread? and

4 - USE THE MOTHER LOVING SEARCH FUNCTION!!!

There are some truly excellent posts about how to practice, as well as how-to get faster. Maybe even try a more systematic approach?

Seriously, people, this forum is a great resource, if used correctly. By abusing it, you're just p*ssing people off. There is no magic trick that will make you faster, and no specific advice that you will get that hasn't already been given. If you want to get faster you need to practice, and if you're stuck at XX it's because you're practicing wrong.

So please think before you post. If this post stops even one person posting then I'll go to bed happy!

And remember - "there are no limits, there are only plateaus, and you must not stay there - you must go beyond them."

Im talking about this one: R U2 R' U' R U2 L' U R' U' L' but it seems to me that there is a mistake in there, but i can not find whats wrong. It suits me the best and i can run it the fastest / smoothest so id like to use it, but since its not wirking, there is no use.

Any ideas what should be the right way?
Also, could somebody please link me to some page that would have more 2x2 algorithm variants for each case?
thanks

I ordered 2 puzzles from a reputable puzzle maker midway through last year, but I haven't received them yet. After the first few months, November 1st 2012 was the first promised completion date then all contact was stopped until I got a forum member to contact him on my behalf. At that stage I was told that only stickers needed to be created for them.:(

The last message I have from him is: "I'll finalise your puzzle and get them to you ASAP. I'll keep you updated over the next few days." That was in January of this year and he never answers my repeated messages!! Now that one of the puzzles I wanted this guy to make is now available at hknowstore I don't know what to do (a well-made 3x3x5). I mean, I don't want to do bad by the puzzle maker, but now that it is 6 months after the promised completion, I have been given no acknowledgement as to whether I will ever get my puzzles. Any ideas?:fp
