This is just a little idea I had. I scrambled a cube and did one move. You have to do the next one :-) How? Just scramble your cube using scramble in the description (D2 F2 R' F' D L' F2 L' U D2 L2 F' B' D' R B' U' L U2 R2 U F R F' D) and apply the moves that has been done yet ("Solution so far). Then film yourself doing the next move you would do :-)

Here are the rules:

All replies to this video are gonna be named something like "Cubing chain #02", all replies to these 03 etc.

You have to put "scramble" + "solution so far" into your response

You have to use "scramble" + "solution so far" of video you respond to

You have to do only one move (I take R2 as one move)

I hope you'll enjoy this idea :-).

I was curious whether my main (Zhanchi) was actually faster than other cubes. In fact, it seems like every week I change my mind about what my favorite cube is. In order to prove it, I took an average of 20 for each cube and these were the results:

Cube

Average

St. Dev.

S_pooled

T_exp

T_99.9%

T_75%

T_25%

Zhanchi

16.70

1.01

1.57

3.622

3.566

1.168

0.321

Lunhui

16.71

1.02

1.47

1.311

MoYu

16.85

1.89

1.52

0.313

Guhong

17.31

1.82

SS Wind

18.50

1.98

Sure enough, it seems like there is no real difference between my top 3 (maybe even 4) favorite cubes, other than I seem to be less consistent with the MoYu and Guhong. Hmmm.

After performing a paired t test, I found with over 99.5% certainty that there is a difference between my times with Zhanchi and ShengShou. Also I can say with over 75% confidence that my Zhanchi is better than my Guhong. (with more trials I could increase certainty.) Finally, and most interestingly, I can be at least 75% confident that there is NO difference between my performance with Zhanchi and with MoYu.

These calculations are really easy to perform in excel. If you want to know how to do it I show how below:

Spoiler:

First put your averages in column B and corresponding deviations in column C (if you want them in order, you can highlight all values and right click, then tell excel to "sort: low to high," then select the "expand current selection" option).

Then you must pool the variances between the two cubes you wish to compare. Say you are comparing the cubes in rows 2 and 3. This is done by using the following equation:

S_pooled = sqrt((( #trials_A - 1 ) * S_A + ( #trials_B - 1 ) * S_B )/( #trials_A + #trials_B - 2 ))

If you are doing 20 trials like I did you can type it in excel like so:

=SQRT((19*C2^2+19*C3^2)/38)

Then you must calculate a t value with:

T_exp = abs(average_A - average_B)/(S_pooled * sqrt(1/#trials_A + 1/#trials_B))

=ABS(B2-B3)/(E2*SQRT(1/10))

Then compare it to the corresponding value in a t table or type into excel:

=TINV(0.001,38)

Where the first number is 1 - p_value (99.9% confidence shown above) and the second number is degrees of freedom (#trials_A + #trials_B - 2)

If T_exp > T_table, you reject the null hypothesis (the values are different). Otherwise, your cubes show no statistical difference at the corresponding level of confidence.

This experiment is fun to try and prove which cube(s) are really best for you. For me at least, it was also an exploration on how little hardware can actually effect your times

What cubes are your fastest? Are they significantly different? Which cubes surprised you when you discovered how good or how bad you are with them?

My challenge is for someone to beat my time my time of 3.37 on this 3 PLL Challenge!
Come on, give it a try!

I also suggest you try these challenges one handed! Maybe you could be Antoine Cantin's OH time of 4.63.

COMMUNITY 3 PLL CHALLENGE

After some thought and suggestions, I have decided to ask the community for their favorite 3 PLL sets! Post some of your favorite, fastest, hardest, or most interesting 3 PLL algorithm sets!

MAIN CHALLENGES

MAIN CHALLENGE 1

First do a J (b) perm ([R U R' F'] {[R U R' U'] [R' F] [R2 U' R'] U'})
Then right after that do a T Perm ([R U R' U'] [R' F] [R2 U' R'] U' [R U R' F'])
Then finally do a U (b) perm ([R U'] [R U] [R U] [R U'] R' U' R2)
The PLL algs I have included are the ones I used to achieve this time!

Try to beat Antoine Cantin's time of 2.57 seconds!

Make sure to also try Mini Challenge 2!

MAIN CHALLENGE 2(Suggested by Sneaklyfox)

Try to get a sub 2 time with your 3 fastest PLLs! I don't know if this is possible but I decided to try suggesting it!

MINI CHALLENGES

MINI CHALLENGE 1 (Suggested by mDIPalma)

This one is interesting. Try to get a Sub-5 time by doing 2 N-Perms and a V-perm!

MINI CHALLENGE 2

Try to achieve a Sub-3 Average of 5 by doing Main Challenge 1!

HIGH SCORES

BOTH MAIN CHALLENGES

Hi everyone,

As you probably know, me and Austin have been doing the newest episodes of Cubecast, and we're thinking about getting some live stuff done at worlds. Now we have 2 ideas about this, and each one could work separately, or together, hence the poll with the options on what you would like to see most.

The first thing is that we would like to have live video feeds set up so that people can watch what is going on. Ideally they would be placed one for each competing area, so that people can watch any event that is currently happening.
The second is that between rounds of events, or when people are free, doing interviews with various cubers, possibly on video, possibly as a voice over on the live feed. We'd hope to talk to quite a few people including current and past world record holders, and also people who are prominent in the community or just people that we want to talk to ;). Due to the fact that people would be competing quite a bit, we would probably have some alternate hosts as well, just to keep things moving during popular events.

The main problem we have is that we have no way to really set all this up without help, so this post has 2 purposes.

First of all, we would like to gauge the interest in us doing this kind of thing.

Secondly, this is a call to anyone who has the equipment/know-how to help us set it up and run it on the day. If someone is already planning stuff like this, we'd really appreciate it if you choose to include us.

I decided to look at the reconstruction for Felix's 5.66 record. First time through went fine and it started with 3 cross pieces already solved. Nice place to start a potential record!

On my second go, I must have mis-scrambled because the whole cross was already solved, just misaligned with the middle layer. This is not so weird in itself (just unlikely) but the entire F2L consisted of easy cases then I got a LL skip. I think the entire solve was under 16 moves and I may have accidentally solved one F2L pair whilst setting up another. This solve felt REALLY weird... cross skip, super-easy F2L and LL skip.

I've tried to reproduce the mis-scramble but I've had no luck. Perhaps someone who fancies a challenge can figure out the mis-scramble?

I took the scramble from http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/sh...-Zemdegs/page2

My first DIY cube was a Zhanchi (black). I had it for like a year, and then I decided to buy a Guhong v2 (white). When I lubed and tensioned my Guhong, it turned like crazy, and after I felt the Guhong, I picked up my Zhanchi and it felt like a snail (it was also lubed and tensioned the same way). It may sound stupid, but Im really worried about my Zhanchi xD

P.S. I lost 2 of my washers somehow, will it affect my cube in any way?
