I am really interested in your thoughts on the puzzle.

I have had the puzzle only for 24 hours. I have done about 200 solves on it. I am not very impressed with the cube. I do get same averages as with my (Zhanchi) main cube. But it just does not feel as smooth and fast as my main. I tried different tensions, different lube. I wonder if I am the only guy at the moment that does not really appreciate his ShuangRen. I think it has too many contact points that makes it rather slow.

I got a DIY Panshi from LightTake. I hate the thing, and before I write it off, I wanted to know if what I'm experiencing is normal, or if I've screwed something up.

The cube is lightly lubed with 50k wt Ofna in both core and cubettes.

Without turning it, the cube feels loose and mushy---like a block of stones held together by bubblegum. When I'm turning it it feels clicky but smooth enough. However, the layers easily become distorted, and this causes small lockups. There's no sort of robustness or sturdyness to it. When I quickly repeat R U R' U', I can get a good pace, but during F2L where I have less structure to my algs, the cube is just absolutely joyless. (See video below.)

It feels like the sort of thing that is fixed by proper tensioning, but I have tried having it sloppy lose, and I've tried having it tightened right down, and everything between. The only important difference I notice through it all, is that if it's too tight, there's not enough pressure on the roots of the corner pieces and they become loose and wobbly.

I think the cube behaves this way for two reasons. First, the cube is made of very smooth rounded pieces and more than any other cube I've seen, is held together by tension. The high tension and round cubettes make the cube feel clicky and locky. Secondly, there is no plastic grommet for the centre pieces to rest flush against the core, which seems to worsen the lack of structural stability in the cube.

Does this describe anyone else's experiences? Did I do something wrong, or get a bad one off the line?

Hello!

I was reading on the MoYu HuanYing and the Funs puzzle and came upon some talking about how the funs puzzle for one is better with a different core, a dayan core to be exact. I kind of expected this as the puzzles did come out of nowhere and seem to be a bit on the "cheap and blocky" side. I was hoping to find out if it's possible to replace them with a Cube4You core and spring set.

Has anyone tried swapping cores? What core is generally considered to be the best? Do you have to swap the springs and screws too?

I've heard a lot of good about the Cube4You core and about how durable it is. I swapped a C4U core in my dayan guhong v2 and it works perfectly. However I don't know how necessary it actually is.

The purpose of this thread is to gather data on what cores are the best and where they can be used.

I for one can say that the Cube4You core set as a whole works perfectly with Dayan puzzles.

UPDATES:

C4U core, Dayan core and Alpha 1 core are the exact same size. C4U core might the be most durable of the 3.
C4U core sets do not have washers, C4U has replaced washers with a spring that is fat on one end.

Cores/springs/washers:
Dayan Guhong V1

Okay, I diassembled my 7x7 v-cube a long time ago and even took the center caps off wishing to lube the core. I sprayed the whole thing with CRC and put it together. It turned out to be crap. Wohoo, I spoiled a 50€ puzzle.

Now my cube is all slippery because the CRC came on the outer layer too, on the pieces. My center caps keep popping off and I can hear the springs tick and tack when turning.

How do I clean it, how do I lube it (with what? Maru lube? Lubix/Traxxas?) and how do I get the center caps to stay on? Do I have to glue them back on? Is there no way to access the core?

All help is appreciated!

I recently purchased a can of WD-40 brand silicone lubricant, and have disassembled my Zhanchi and sprayed it. I waited for it to dry (around 3 and a half hours) and reassembled it. After a bit of breaking in, my cube turns fine. When turned slowly, it makes my cube feel weird, but when turned quickly during speedsolving, it turns a dream. This is the can the lubricant came in:

I didn't use either of these like some people do:

I think it depends on what cube you have, but for my Zhanchi, it works fine. I only applied it earlier today (12.30 GMT) and it is now 23.10 GMT, so this is sorta like a first impressions post, but judging by what it's like already, I would strongly recommend this product.

(NB I can only be sure it will work on a Dayan Zhanchi speedcube. Please do not blame me if it kills a different brand cube)

And it makes your cube smell of lemons. Just sayin.

UPDATE: It is now morning and my cube is still as good as it was last night.

"Is 'this cube' better than 'that cube'?" seems to be a common question. A common answer is something such as "it's personal preference."

Most people probably prefer certain qualities in a puzzle. By qualities, I am referring to the things that are often mentioned in reviews and comparisons.

Like the title states, what makes a cube "better" to you?

assembled
brand of cube
corner cutting
DIY
feeling of turning
lockups
maintenance needed
pops
price
reverse corner cutting
size of the puzzle
speed
stickers
something else

If your response would be size of the puzzle, for example, specify which you prefer (large or small). For speed, slow or fast. Etc.
