Lately on the home page of the forum, there's been a lot of introduction threads. That's a good thing, but most of those introduction threads have been changed into a thread for the original poster to post up their updates/ personal bests. It may just be me, but it's sort of getting annoying.

There's a reason why the thread is in the "Members Introduction" sub forum. It's for a new user to introduce themselves to show others that they're new. It's not a sub forum for updates and personal bests. That's what the Accomplishment thread is for.

I mean, it's great that people are improving and talking with other people, but the threads are sort of cluttering the home page and setting a bad example for other users when they make their own introduction thread. I've seen a few new users posting videos of themselves cubing on their introduction threads and asking for help. That's what the solve critque thread is for.

I've made this thread to see if other users of the forum feel the same way as me.

Feel free to use this thread to discuss the feature, unless there is already a thread for it (I couldn't find one)...

First off, I'm not sure I like it. I do like the idea that people who are helpful will get rewarded with fake karma points or whatever. But I also feel like it is more suited to a forum where people typically create and post stuff, rather than here where people typically discuss things and compete for fast times. It seems like actually giving people proper credit for good posts will break the flow of reading a thread. I also think interesting reposts of videos, pictures, etc. will end up getting much more thanks than original ideas or arguments. We'll have to wait and see, but imagining myself using this feature, I'm not sure I like the effects.

Also, I think there are some subtle problems with the current way it's implemented:
- Some people have many thousands of posts before thanking was started, and probably won't get many thanks on the older posts. This makes them look really unhelpful. I don't know how to remedy this.
- The actual box below a post saying who thanked the user is pretty big and intrusive. It breaks the flow of the page by looking like it separates the thanked post from the ones after it.
- On the left of a post we have a separate "Thanks" and "Thanked X times" box. What's the difference?
